I usually bring a small daypack in my carryon for day outings during the trip. I have one that is very light weight made from ripstop nylon that has narrow web straps which get really uncomfortable. This pack has wide shoulder straps that don't dig into the shoulders. This fabric is also more substantial, like a canvas. There is an external zipper compartment, the large, zippered main compartment and the internal zippered pouch. The internal pouch is dual purpose. It can be used for organizing the large compartment to keep small items handy at the top and it is also the self-storage pouch.I don't know how many times I referred back to the web listing to see the storage steps. There were no printed instructions included and a link to a video would have been nice. The trick to self-storing the pack in the pouch is to TURN THE POUCH INSIDE-OUT. This isn't apparent from the photo sequence provided in the listing. It can be done. My self-store pack doesn't look as neat as their photo, but it is folded and stored. I'm not sure that there's a benefit to doing it this way or just stuffing it into the bottom of my carryon.I didn't downgrade for the difficult self-storing. This is more comfortable and a little sturdier than my older one so it's still a win.
